HOW TO PREPARE FOR BANK EXAMINATIONS

The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection, popularly known as the IBPS is an autonomous body. It conducts recruitment examinations for all Public Sector Banks except the SBI. IBPS RRB Clerk, IBPS RRB PO, IBPS Clerk, IBPS PO, SBI Clerk, SBI PO are some of the major exams in banking sector. You just have to prepare for one exam because al the exams have almost similar syllabus and they only differ in marking standard. follow these steps to do effective preparation and clear bank exams :

  • Examine the exam pattern and syllabus- To clear any exam, you need to know the pattern and syllabus first. This will help you to prepare judiciously for your exams. First of all write down your syllabus on your notebook or take its print out.

IBPS RRB Clerk, IBPS Clerk, SBI Clerk recruitment is conducted in two stages- prelims and mains while IBPS RRB PO, IBPS PO, SBI PO recruitment conducted in three stages- prelims, mains and interview. It is mandatory for a candidate to clear each level of examination to get selected to the respective post in multiple Public Sector Banks.

Prelims exam pattern- The preliminary examinations conduct online and candidates are allocated a total duration of 1 hour to complete the examination. It consists of 3 sections with total 100 questions and a maximum score of 100 marks. 3 sections are English, Reasoning ability and Numerical ability while in IBPS RRB PO and Clerk there will be 2 section i.e. Reasoning ability and Numerical ability with total 80 questions and a maximum score of 80 marks. It is necessary to clear sectional cutoff as well as final cutoff to qualify for mains exams.

Mains exam pattern- The mains examination conduct online and it consists of 5 section in IBPS RRB PO and Clerk. You can choose your language preference between English and Hindi. There will be Reasoning ability, Numerical ability, Computer awareness and General awareness while in rest mains examination consists of 4 sections i.e. English, Reasoning ability, Numerical ability and General banking/economy awareness.

In IBPS PO and SBI PO examination there will be descriptive paper in its mains examination in which candidates will be judged on their written skills. An essay and a letter will be given to write that will constitutes of 25 marks and that has to be completed in 30 minutes.

There will be no separate paper of computer awareness. Reasoning will be teamed up with computer aptitude.

Interview process- There will not be any interview in clerk examination. Interview will be conducted in only PO examination only if you pass mains examination. You will be called for interview process by IBPS. The interview process will constitute of 100 marks and minimum marks for qualifying this will be 40% which is reduced to 35% for SC/ST/OBC/PWD candidates.

  • Make a study schedule and time management- Before preparing a study schedule first analyze your day-to-day activities, what you do whole day other than study. You can clear bank examination by studying daily 5 hours.

Numerical ability- 1:30-2:00 hours

Reasoning ability- 2:00-2:30 hours

English- 1 hour

General economy/ banking awareness- 30-45 minutes

Computer awareness is not there in every examination, so you can start preparing it 15-20 days before examination as the questions asked are not of very high level.

This is the general study schedule for preparing bank examinations but you can change in time according to your capability and strength.

Without any preparation, give a mock test and check your score and percentile. If your percentile is less than 90, check the topics you are lagging in and prepare them from book/ Youtube channel/Website. Keep repeating this until you start a scoring percentile of 90+ in each subject.
